THE DUTIES OF THE SHERIFF
The Office of Sheriff
In Georgia, it is required by law that each county have a sheriff. The State General Assembly assigns very specific instructions and duties to the sheriffs and deputies of the counties, under the Official Code of Georgia, Section 15-16-1 thru 15-16-24.
General duties of the Henry County Sheriff's Department:
- The greatest duty of the sheriff is to operate and maintain a safe, secure jail for inmates and staff. Of course, the sheriff should hire professional employees and provide them with the best training, technical support, and equipment that is available.
- Responsible for serving warrants and civil papers.
- School Safety.
- Courthouse Security.
In Henry County, we also have a county police department.
General Duties of the Henry County Police Department:
- Twenty four hour patrols, to include all 911 calls and traffic control.
- All criminal investigations.
- Special Operations.
